Selangor, Malaysia, 18 April 2022 – From 23 February to 27 February 2022, AIESEC in Malaysia brings its annual Winter National Conference in hybrid mode for the first time. The Zoom conference was hosted successfully with 195 delegates, the newly elected management board from all local chapters of AIESEC in Malaysia.
This conference aimed to build up the momentum of AIESEC in Malaysia memberships by providing both operational knowledge and soft skills needed to lead a team and reconnect with the vision and mission of AIESEC in striving for Peace and Fulfilment of Humankind’s Potential. Additionally, the conference allowed AIESEC in Malaysia to deepen the relationship with like-minded partner organisations such as UOB Malaysia – the financial partner of the conference and Chumbaka – present as a learning partner, exchanging thoughts with the delegates about the leadership skills we need in this ever-changing period.
Figure 1: A keynote session on the topic of “The Arts of Leadership” delivered by Zhi Xiong Chong – Zhi Xiong Chief Learning Officer at Chumbaka.
Zhi Xiong Chong, the Chief Learning Officer of Chumbaka, shared in his keynote session that we need four elements to find the right balance of empowerment in leadership: the right mentor, a vital purpose, a sustainable community and accessible tools. His authentic story sharing reflected how these four elements empowered more children to learn happily and effectively with technology.
Figure 2: The Q&A session with Tak Ming Lai – Executive Director, Country Head of HR at UOB Malaysia on the topic of “Leading the Change”.
Tak Ming Lai, the Executive Director, Country Head of HR of UOB Malaysia, emphasises the need for young leaders to equip themselves with the leadership qualities essential to lead others amid changes.
“To lead the change, leaders need to stay resilient, have high learning agility and speak up their thoughts with courage,” says Tak Ming. “We focus on providing our team leaders with the tools to engage with the people to support their emotional wellness.”
With the industry leaders’ sharings, AIESEC memberships can understand how relevant and applicable the AIESEC’s value-based leadership skills are in the community and workplace. Moreover, the delegates were exposed to multiple sessions regarding the six AIESEC leadership qualities: striving for excellence, demonstrating integrity, activating leadership, acting sustainably, enjoying participation, and living diversity. We focus on these qualities to ensure that the youths who take part in AIESEC emerge as leaders with positive impact.
AIESEC in Malaysia looks forward to partnering with like-minded organisations like UOB and Chumbaka in future touchpoints. We appreciate the speakers for being part of the AIESEC membership’s development journey. With the right leadership, we aim to develop a generation of purposeful leaders that will amplify and magnify the positive impacts we hope to see in this country.
